Northampton Clinic / Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing which aims to balance a person's inner energy to promote good health and well-being. Fine sterile stainless steel needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points to bring about widespread benefits to a person's physical body and their general state of mind and emotions.

After an initial detailed case history lasting about 2 hours, the Acupuncturist will check a patient's wrist pulses and sometimes also their tongue. Treatment then starts on a weekly basis, with sterile needles being inserted as appropriate to create the desired changes in the patient's energy. Sometimes a process called moxibustion is used - with the skin being gently warmed by a traditional herbal preparation. The frequency of treatment decreases gradually as the patient starts to maintain any improvement.
